A little about Moshe Feldenkrais and the Feldenkrais® Method

Moshe Feldenkrais, the founder of the Feldenkrais Method, was a man who gained prominence throughout the world.  He used his techniques to help the common person, adults and children, as well as world famous dancers, musicians, actors, athletes, and world statesmen such as David Ben-Gurion and John F. Kennedy, to gain more flexibility and ease in movement.

Feldenkrais himself was a biophysicist and an innovative Judo master.  He was a contemporary of Ida Rolph, who developed the Rolphing Technique of massage; of Randolph Stone, who developed Polarity Therapy (a form of energetic work); and the popularization worldwide of Transcendental Meditation.  Yet, he felt that he had something very unique to say and teach, something he thought might take a century to take hold.

His teachings and techniques, called Awareness Through Movement, and Function Integration, are all about process -- a process of self-exploration that he said begins with a very simple movement, and with an awareness of the mind upon that movement.  His work is in the form of lessons which number over 3,000, which he has designed for all of us to enjoy.

Lessons are arranged so that participants almost trip over the process and learn spontaneously, with no willpower, no effort, except the choice of being aware of the process.

Participants are given time to get used to the novelty of the experience, and are provided a safe environment in which to learn.

Moshe Feldenkrais died in 1984.  His work lives on in the people he trained directly.  This small group travels worldwide teaching his work directly to students.  Judith has completed two years of training with trainers who worked closely and directly with Moshe Feldenkrais for many years, and is authorized to teach Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement classes by the Feldenkrais Guild of North America.
